Restylane is the pioneer in instant wrinkle correction and volume correction using hyaluronic acid gel. Restylane corrects fine, moderate and severe facial wrinkles and folds of all types, from the down-turned corners of the mouth to deep nasolabial folds. Perlane, a higher density gel filler is an ideal mid-level dermal filler and is often used as a base when a dual correction is needed.

Restylane has been used in over 7 million treatments.

Restylane is used not only to fill lines and creased, but to also increase fullness and enhance the lips, define the lip line, fill scars and plump up facial areas that have lost their youthful appearance. One very common instance of “volume loss” is the area under the eyes. Under eye hollows create a worn-out, tired look. Restylane or other dermal injection products are instant solutions.

Because Restylane is made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid and is fully and safely biocompatible, allergy testing is not required.

Lasting up to twice as long as collagen, and in many cases even longer, treatments are typically scheduled only twice a year. Injected into the dermis in tiny amounts with a very fine needle, the result is instantaneous, producing a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to the skin. Smoothing out folds and wrinkles by adding volume can make an enormous difference in appearance and sometimes make the face look several years younger. With Restylane, you can enjoy facial rejuvenation without the use of foreign elements.

Q & A’s about Restylane

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eyes their shape. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is stabilized for long duration and is not of animal or human origin.

What are the contents of RESTYLANE and PERLANE?

Restylane and Perlane consist of stabilized hyaluronic acid and a sodium chloride solution with a pH of 7. All Restylane products are clear, transparent and viscous gels. The only difference between the products is the size of the gel particles. Larger particle formulations such as Perlane are used for deeper folds and augmentation. In contrast to other similar products, the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is not produced from animals. This means that there is no risk of disease being transmitted or allergic reactions being elicited if you are sensitive to common foods, such as beef, chicken and eggs.

Can different Restylane products be used in the same area?

It is possible, indeed sometimes desirable, for Restylane products to be combined in order to perfect a correction. For example, to correct a deep fold, Restylane Perlane may be injected first, followed by Restylane at a more superficial level to achieve optimal treatment result.

How long will a treatment session take?

Treatment with Restylane is a very quick and easy process. As no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately. A treatment generally takes 30 minutes. The time differs somewhat, depending on the correction you wish to have performed.

Does it hurt?

Most people find the injections relatively painless. They may prick a little. If you like, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the area being treated prior to your procedure. When enhancing the lips, a local anesthetic injection is often given as this area is the most sensitive.

How soon will I see the results?

The results can be seen immediately.

What will I look like after the treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. After a lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a few days (up to a week). If the discomfort continues, please contact Dermatology Group.

Are there precautions after my treatment with Restylane?

Yes. During the first 48 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a sauna or by sunbathing) or extreme cold.

What should I do prior to the treatments?

Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort and high doses of Vitamin E supplements one week prior to procedure. This will help minimize any bruising or bleeding at the infection site. If you have had instances of cold sores or herpes simplex, we will treat you with an antiviral medication to minimize the possibility of an injection-caused outbreak.

What other treatments are typically used along with Restylane?

Quite frequently our patients will have Botox injections to soften the dynamic wrinkles caused by movement such as frowning or squinting or lip pursing. Using both products simultaneously results in a smooth, relaxed and younger appearance.
