Laser Tattoo Removal
Remove your unwanted and out-of-date tattoos with Medlite Q-switched Nd:YAG Laser. Q-Switched lasers represent the gold standard for tattoo removal This laser provides effective treatment with little discomfort. While many patients do not require anesthesia, we offer several types of local anesthesia for your comfort.
Tattoo ink is removed by using a specific wavelength of laser light. The light passes through the skin and is absorbed by the ink, causing the tattoo ink to break down. The ink is then absorbed and disposed of by the body’s natural “cleansing” processes. The results are usually excellent for tattoo removal.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tattoo Removal
How are tattoos removed?
The laser light is drawn to and absorbed by the pigment in the tattoo ink. The instantaneous absorption of the laser energy results in pigment shattering. These smaller fragments of ink particles can then be swept up by the body’s natural internal cleansing system. Multiple sessions are needed to break up the ink particles. The Q-switched Nd: YAG laser is the newest & one of the most effective ways to remove tattoos. The short laser pulse makes the procedure fast and more comfortable than many other lasers. Dr. Blumenstrauch and the practice associates use the Medlite extensively for both tattoo removal and many pigment issues such as large freckles and age spots.
Earlier methods in tattoo removal involved the use of dermabrasion, salabrasion, surgery and CO2 lasers, but these procedures left behind scars or lighter skin in place of the tattoo.

What does tattoo removal feel like?
Removal is not painless, but no more painful than receiving a tattoo and usually less painful since we can use anesthetic creams to help numb the skin.
How much does the treatment cost?
During the consultation, the tattoo can be evaluated, all questions can be answered and risks & benefits discussed. Fees are determined during your free consultation. Factors determining price are the color of the inks, type of ink, and the size and depth of a tattoo. High quality, professional; tattoos may require more treatments since there is more ink and it reaches deeper in the skin.
How many treatment sessions will it take to remove the tattoo?
Professional tattoos may require 5-10 treatments. Homemade tattoos usually require only 1-4 treatments. The number of treatments depends on the amount, type of ink used, and the depth of the ink in the skin, as well as the location of the tattoo, and individual health considerations. Treatments are spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
Do all colors of ink disappear equally as well?
No; dark (blue/black) inks and red inks fade best. Oranges, yellows, and purples usually respond well. Green, light teal/sky blue, inks are the most difficult to remove, although multiple treatments can produce excellent results with sufficient fading to be satisfactory.

Will my tattoo disappear completely?
In many cases, yes. Greater than 95% fading of the tattoo may be accomplished. However, it is important to know that there are many, many types of tattoo inks in use worldwide today, none of which are regulated by the FDA. Not knowing which tattoo ink was used, or how deeply it was applied, makes it impossible for the physician to predict the degree of removal on any given tattoo.
